A small distance from Ag. Kirikos lies the small village of Therma with its world famous
therapeutic radioactive hot mineral springs.
The sources in the coasts of Therma were acquaintances from the Antiquity. They belong in
the category of [alipigon] radioactive sources. Their uniqueness and the therapeutic
attributes of water made the island famous. In the decade 1920 it began extensive
exploitation of hot sources and up to 1940 [chtistikan] enough hotel units and the enterprises
that were related with the operation of baths prospered. At World War B’ and Civilian the
sources interrupted their operation. In the Newer years became efforts of resurgence of
therapeutic tourism and were evaluated scientifically the attributes of therapeutical sources.
Exceptional interest present the therapeutical sources of Ikaria, that are the category of
[alipigon] radioactive. More radioactive they are [Artemidos] (754 Mache, 50,4°C), Apollo
(557 Mache, 45,4°C), [Moystafa]-[Litza] (350 Mache, 43°C), [Kratsa] (240 Mache, 46,8°C)
etc. Hotter than all (58,7°C), but poorer in radioactivity (8,2 - 9 Mache) is the source Hot. In
the region have been found ruins from ancient baths.
